Take The AirTrain To LGA

We really do not see any argument against it. In fact, we are behind it 100-percent. We are referring to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s announcement of plans to build an AirTrain to LaGuardia Airport. The MTA and Port Authority support the plan and will work closely together, pledging to build with a minimum of disruption to the nearby communities, or burden surrounding structures and said it will take approximately five years once all approvals are obtained. According to Cuomo’s proposal, the 1.5-mile stretch of light rail will run along the Grand Central Parkway, from the airport to the Mets- Willets Point station on the 7 line. It is estimated to cost approximately $450 million, which is considered very doable, compared to how prohibitively expensive tunneling for new subways costs. Some of the $450 million estimate will come from proceeds from the anticipated settlement in the case New York state had against some major banks.

The AirTrain will also connect to the Long Island Rail Road.

It might also be possible to run the AirTrain along the Grand Central Parkway toward the N/Q train at Astoria Boulevard without disrupting the residents of Astoria either.

We believe that the M60 bus should also continue to be a priority. It is a great connection from Manhattan to Astoria and LaGuardia Airport.

We commend the governor for his wise decision and action on this critically needed initiative.

With the AirTrain, LaGuardia Airport users get to join JFK International Airport in the 21st century.
