Cops Hunt Synagogue Thieves

BY LIZ GOFF

Police last week released surveillance photos (see photos) of two suspects who stole cash from a Kew Gardens synagogue on Christmas Day.

Cops said the suspects were caught on surveillance footage entering the Shuva Israel Temple on 70th Road near 147th Street in the early morning hours of December 25.

The pair can be seen on the footage slipping through an open door at the synagogue between r and 8:3- a.m. on Christmas Day, where they ransacked the interior, ripped a cupboard door off its hinges and grabbed $500 from a collection box before fleeing the scene.

Law enforcement sources said investigators are trying to determine if the suspects were involved in a string of similar burglaries at synagogues in the area.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Crime Stoppers HOTLINE at 1-800-577-TIPS or click on www.nnypdcrimestoppers.com.
