Councilmember Costa Constantinides (D-Astoria) hosted a Universal Pre-K mobile registration event with education advocacy group Zone 126 and community group Urban Upbound. Education professionals helped residents of NYCHA Astoria Houses facilities register for Pre-K at Urban Upbound offices.

“As we approach the deadline to register children citywide, we want to make sure that all children and parents have the opportunity to take advantage of the city’s new Universal Pre-K initiative and had [sic] access to the tools to sign up on time,” said Constantinides. “I thank Zone 126 and Urban Upbound for helping to put this event together.”

“We are very excited about the Pre-K registration for children in Astoria Houses,” said Bishop Mitchell Taylor, co-founder and CEO of Urban Upbound. “Many children in public housing get a late start at education because of a myriad of different reasons. Universal Pre-K is a game changer for the academic success of our kids.”

“Zone 126 is proud to have partnered with Councilman Constantinides and Urban Upbound for this Pre-K registration campaign,” said Zone 126 Executive Director Maritza Arroyo. “Knowing the importance of early education and the challenges our families have faced in accessing Pre-K in the past, this Pre-K campaign is a wonderful opportunity to work with our families and have them register for an experience that will positively impact their children and place them on the path to academic success.”
