Queens Councilmembers Meet On Discretionary Fund Requests

The Queens 15 member delegation in the City Council held a meeting last week to hear testimony from groups and organizations seeking capital or expense budget funding from the councilmembers’ discretionary funds, which are distributed to each member for a designated project in his or her district. The funds are given out at the discretion of the city council speaker.

The March 14 meeting was convened by Councilmember Mark Weprin (D–Oakland Gardens), whose Queens colleagues recently elected him as their chairman.

“These meetings are an opportunity for everyone who is seeking funding to speak publicly before the Queens councilmembers,” Weprin stated.

The Queens councilmembers are: Paul Vallone (19th district-Bayside), Peter Koo (20th/Flushing), Julissa Ferreras (21st/Corona), Costa Constantinides (22nd/Astoria), Mark Weprin (23rd/Oakland Gardens), Rory Lancman (24th/Fresh Meadows), Daniel Dromm (25th/Jackson Heights), Jimmy Van Bramer (26th/Sunnyside), I. Daneek Miller (27th/Springfield Gardens), Ruben Wills (28th/Jamaica), Karen Koslowitz (29th/Forest Hills), Elizabeth Crowley (30th/Glendale), Donovan Richards (31st/Rosedale), Eric Ulrich (32nd/Ozone Park), Antonio Reynoso (34th/Ridgewood/Bushwick). All are Democrats, except for Ulrich, who is a Republican.
