KATZ WORKING WEEKEND:

On the first weekend following her swearing-in, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz visited several events around the borough. On January 12 Katz participated in the annual legislative breakfast of the Queens Jewish Community Council (QJCC) at Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills, where she took part with community leaders in a discussion of challenges facing the borough. Katz, in a brief talk, explained her goals regarding economic development, the redevelopment of the borough’s major commercial districts, and creating an economic climate for business. Also on Sunday, Katz attended the Taiwanese American Association of New York’s dinner at the Mudan Banquet Hall in Flushing. Earlier on Sunday, Katz attended morning services at Calvary Baptist Church in Jamaica and at the Saint Albans Congregational Church. The previous day, Katz attended the swearing-in of newly elected Councilmember I. Daneek Miller (D–Jamaica) at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center. Later on she attended the swearing-in of Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, with whom Katz served in the City Council.
