Martha’s Country Bakery

Martha’s Country Bakery on Ditmars Boulevard. welcomes you all back after a brief pause for expansion. Due to the popularity of this stellar bakery, the eating area has expanded to include a glass-enclosed atrium which will open up to the sidewalk in warm weather. Rustic, country chic with a touch of modern is the décor, with wood beam ceilings and plank floors. Wood plank table tops and cool, modern lighting and brand new bathrooms are all beautiful and super clean. Now there are twice as many seats for friends, couples and families to gather and enjoy the absolute best cakes, pies, cupcakes, pastries, gelato, coffees and more! Now is the time to place your holiday order for an awesome array of desserts for your celebrations. Gift certificates are available too, and make great gifts and stocking stuffers.

Partners George Stertsios and partner Tony Zannikos take pride in their baked goods and use real butter, vanilla, chocolate, and fresh fruit in their decadent creations. You can taste it in every delicious bite of their cakes, 18 varieties of cupcakes, pies and everything else they make. Their confections contain the perfect balance of sugar so you can taste the quality of the ingredients, and not just sweetness.

You will be dazzled by the amazing array of artfully prepared cakes, tarts, pies, cookies, mousse pastries, puddings and so much more. How to choose? To make choosing even more difficult, George told me about some new items available: French style “macarons” which are impossibly light confections made in beautiful pastel colors and flavors along with crème brulee, molten lava soufflés, and their truly incredible apple crumb cheesecake. I was particularly impressed with the newly added ‘’fondant cakes” which look so beautiful with their bright colors and designs they resemble animated cakes in children’s shows but are so rich and moist inside and very delicate. Martha’s cakes are sky high, full of flavor and quality ingredients, and not overly sweet. The seven layer chocolate cake has thin layers of moist, chocolaty cake layered between fluffy, rich chocolate mousse. The caramel cake melts in your mouth and everyone loves the red velvet cake and strawberry shortcake, with real cream. Raspberry almond cake and Black Forest with cherries are other favorites here, available by the slice, or the entire cake. Next time you’re invited to someone’s house for dinner, bring one of these gorgeous cakes and you will be the toast of the night.

Martha’s has a new banana-chocolate chip bread pudding that is so good, served warm with whipped cream. There’s even chocolate bread pudding for the chocoholic. Banana cream pudding is something of a lost art, happily found here. This creamy, light, all natural banana dessert brings back fond memories of childhood. The pies are not to be missed here, made with fresh fruit, never canned. There’s classic apple pie, mile-high lemon meringue, pumpkin, pecan, coconut custard and my favorite cherry.

Accompany your treat with one of their fabulous coffee drinks, both hot and cold. High quality coffee is used for their cappuccino, lattes, frappes and the new Nutella cappuccino and peanut butter hot chocolate. Their hot chocolate is made the traditional way, with real, melted down Ghirardelli chocolate and milk. There’s pumpkin hot chocolate too and a variety of teas to warm you up. Start your morning with one of these hot drinks and a flaky croissant, muffin or sweet roll. Muffin flavors include blueberry banana, bran, cappuccino, cranberry, carrot, chocolate chip and more. Dunk a cinnamon stick pastry or a piece of their famous yogurt poundcake into the magical brew. Tender scones laced with pecans or raisins dunk right into your hot coffee for the perfect start to your day, to stay or to go.
