Forest Hills Pastor Found Dead In Long Island Pool
Reverend Monsignor Gerald J. Langelier, 78, was pronounced dead after being found unconscious at the bottom of a pool at his home in Southold, Long Island on Friday, July 19.
Langelier was swimming alone when he drowned. His body was found at about 4:57 p.m. by Monsignor Ronald Richardson, 78, at the house they shared with another pastor. Southold police and firefighters arrived at the scene and tried to revive him, but were unable to. Langelier was then rushed to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport where he was confirmed dead.
Langelier was pastor emeritus at Our Lady of Mercy Church, a Catholic church in Forest Hills, where he had served as a pastor from 1984 to 2007.
“Gerry was a man of integrity. He very much loved being a priest,” Richardson said according to Newsday.
The funeral will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church. The date and time is to be announced.
