Paul Vallone, Democratic candidate for the 19th City Council seat, received the endorsement of Congressmember Grace Meng on June 17. Meng represents the 6th Congressional District which overlaps much of the 19th city council district. Meng handily won the 19th city council portions of her district last year in both the primary and general election.

“Paul Vallone is a strong fighter for his community and will make a dynamic and effective city councilmember. He understands the needs of the district and will serve the public with honesty and integrity,” said Meng. “Paul and I are both raising our families in Queens and know the importance of keeping our community a great place to live. I am proud to endorse Paul to be the next councilmember from the 19th district.”

Vallone also received the endorsement of Assemblymember Ron Kim. Vallone also received the endorsement of Assemblymember Ron Kim. “Like me and so many others in our community, Grace Meng is a parent who wakes up every day with a mission to better the neighborhoods where we raise our families. For that reason, and so many others, Northeast Queens is incredibly fortunate to have Congresswoman Meng representing us in Congress,” remarked Vallone. “The Clinton Democratic Club and many of my campaign’s supporters were proud to support Grace as she made history last year. I am thrilled to have her endorsement today as we roll towards a victory on Primary Day and move forward to restoring honesty and integrity to the 19th city council seat.”

The last several election cycles have witnessed a fortified Asian American vote emerge from the neighborhoods in Northeast Queens. Last year, Meng made history when she was elected the first ever Asian American to represent New York in the House of Representatives. Today, Asian Americans now make up close to 18 percent of the enrolled Democratic voters in the 19th city council district and 28 percent of households.

In addition to Meng’s support, Paul Vallone has also earned the endorsement of Assemblymember Ron Kim who also made history last year when he became the first ever Korean American elected to the New York state Assembly. On Friday, Vallone met with Peter Tu and members of the Flushing Chinese Business Association to discuss the issues that matter most to small business owners in Queens.
