CALDC To Hold Independence Celebration In Astoria Park

The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition’s (CALDC) Annual Independence Day Celebration will be held on Monday, June 24, 7:30 p.m. on the Astoria Park waterfront.

The Independence Day Celebration will be held thanks to CALDC, Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr., and support from Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall and a host of generous corporate sponsors including NRG and Kaufman Astoria Studios. A water display will burst in the skyline thanks to the FDNY for the fireboat and the celebration will be ushered in with a musical tribute by the Queens Symphony Orchestra, 50 musicians strong. The National Anthem will be sung by Rebecca Pacuk, granddaughter of the late Julie Wager, who was the driving force behind the concerts.

After the performance, the skies over the East River will light up with a spectacular fireworks display presented by the Grucci Family, bringing the crowd to a flag-waving frenzy of patriotism and American pride! Again this year, CALDC’s fireworks will be the only display on the East River. The annual Independence Day Celebration featuring the Queens Symphony Orchestra is presented as part of Central Astoria’s 31st Annual Waterfront Concert Series at Astoria Park and ushers in the summer season there, which includes a carnival and a movie series.

The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition’s Astoria Park Waterfront Concert Series 2013 is made possible by public funding from Vallone, Van Bramer, Marshall, the city Department of Cultural Affairs, and the corporate sponsorship of the aforementioned NRG and Kaufman Astoria Studios, plus Alma Bank, Astoria Federal Savings Bank, Atlantic Bank, Greiner Maltz Investment Properties, Mount Sinai Queens, Thomas M. Quinn & Sons Funeral Home, St. Michael’s Cemetery and Quontic Bank.
