MARSHALL MARKS EMS WEEK: Queens Borough President Helen Marshall presented a proclamation to a delegation of the city Emergency Medical Services (EMS) members who visited Borough Hall last Friday to celebrate Emergency Medical Services Week in Queens. Noting that during 2012, the Queens division of EMS made 247,676 ambulance runs and successfully resuscitated 420 people who had gone into cardiac arrest, Marshall declared, “National EMS Week honors the hard work and dedication of the paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians who provide life saving medical services on the “front line’ of medicine.” During the event promoting public awareness of the EMS’ valiant work, members displayed an FDNY EMS ambulance and a Major Emergency Response Vehicle (MERV), an FDNY apparatus that can accommodate multiple patients at once. EMS personnel also demonstrated the performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), provided sign-up cards for CPR classes and offered free blood pressure tests.
