Volunteers Spruce Up Parks For ‘It’s My Park Day’

City Department of Parks and Recreation Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski, City Parks Foundation President Alison Tocci and Partnerships for Parks joined thousands of community volunteers on May 4, at Hoover-Manton Playgrounds in Briarwood to help spruce up parks in Queens and citywide on It’s My Park Day.
More than 5,000 volunteers contributed their time to improve and to celebrate New York City’s parks as part of It’s My Park Day. This annual event is produced by Partnerships for Parks, a joint program of the City Parks Foundation and NYC Parks.
This spring, volunteers will come together all month to complete nearly 150 projects across the city, working to clean, paint, weed and plant, as well as enjoy free fitness activities, arts and cultural events and games.
The Briarwood Action Network kicked off It’s My Park Day in Queens by cleaning, mulching, weeding and painting benches, basketball poles and backboards throughout the park. Projects were followed by arts and crafts and story reading. Light refreshments were provided by neighborhood businesses.
