Astoria Cop Charged In Hooker Bust
A 13-year veteran NYPD officer last week was arrested and charged with patronizing two prostitutes while he was on duty at the 114th Precinct in Astoria, Queens prosecutors said.
Police sources said Officer Luis Gutierrez, 37, was nabbed on February 28 when he arrived to meet the prostitutes at a Wendy’s Restaurant on Northern Boulevard for a sexual encounter with the women.
Gutierrez, who is married with children, was allegedly on duty, in uniform on February 27, when he arranged the alleged sexual tryst, the sources said. He was off-duty when he arrived to meet with the two prostitutes in the restaurant parking lot.
Sources said one or both of the prostitutes may have been NYPD confidential informants – and may have alerted police of Gutierrez’ plan to meet them for sex.
Officers at the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau investigated the allegations and called for Gutierrez’ arrest, officials said.
Police were waiting last Thursday when Gutierrez pulled into the restaurant parking lot, driving his own vehicle and dressed in civilian clothes, law enforcement sources said. The cops jumped on the NYPD veteran and took him into custody before he met up with the hookers, the sources said.
Gutierrez was charged with patronizing a prostitute, official misconduct and conspiracy. He was issued a Desk Appearance Ticket and was immediately suspended from his job, authorities said.
