Drama Club Presents ‘Food For Thought’
Members of Our Lady of Hope School Drama Club in Middle Village performed a short comedy production to highlight the importance of healthy eating among young people. The production is part of Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York’s community outreach program in conjunction with Kohl’s Department Stores. The program is aimed at curbing childhood obesity and promoting health and wellness in local communities, especially good nutrition. The Drama Club’s original musical comedy skit entitled “Food for Thought”, features musical numbers that parody everything from the musical Gypsy to the song “Call Me Maybe”. The 20-minute presentation brought its audience an understanding of the tough time that youngsters have in making healthy food choices in school. Obesity continues to threaten an entire generation of young people, putting them at increased risk of serious illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure and liver disease. The production was made possible in part from the donation of a $408,851 grant from Kohl’s Department Stores’ Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise program to Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York.
