Louis Armstrong House Museum To Hold Gala

It’s Gala time for the Louis Armstrong House Museum, Tuesday, December 4th.

All are invited to the Manhattan Penthouse at 80 Fifth Avenue, in Manhattan to lend support. The Gala features a special performance by David Ostwald’s Louis Armstrong Centennial Band.

The Louis Armstrong House Museum has enjoyed remarkable growth since its inception. Louis and Lucille’s home, a National Historic Landmark and NYC Landmark, welcomes visitors six days per week, twelve months per year. And what was once a stack of 72 shipping cartons of “Satchmo’s stuff” has grown to become the world’s largest archives for any jazz musician. Public programs include children’s concerts, jazz concerts, exhibits, scholarly lectures and book signings and receptions for visiting dignitaries, all keeping the legacy for Louis Armstrong alive in his Corona home.

The 2012 Gala Honors Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation President Stanley Crouch; saxophonist, composer/arranger, author, and Queens College Professor Emeritus Jimmy Heath; Newport Festivals Foundation Chairman George Wein.

The party will include a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres hour, the awards ceremony, dinner, and concert. Business attire is welcome. There are sponsorship packages available. For more information, contact Louis Armstrong House Museum Development Officer Nayelli DiSpaltro, at 718-997-3589 or e-mail nayelli. dispaltro@qc.cuny.edu.
