Top-Ranked CUNY Law School Opens In LIC
The City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law held a ribbon-cutting celebration on October 22, to mark the opening of the law school’s new home at 2 Court Square in Long Island City. New York state Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman delivered the keynote address. Chief Judge Lippman was confirmed as chief judge in 2009. Prior to that he served as the chief administrative judge of all New York state courts and was the presiding justice of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, First Department. The Law School’s new location provides nearly 70,000 additional square feet of state-of-the-art classroom, conference, and event facilities, and is accessible by several subway and bus lines and the Long Island Railroad. The building, designed by Kohn, Pedersen, Fox, is LEED Gold certified, meaning its construction had a reduced environmental impact and its design promotes occupants’ health and well being. CUNY School of Law’s mission is to graduate outstanding public interest attorneys and to enhance the diversity of the legal profession. U.S. News & World Report ranks CUNY fourth in the nation for “Best Clinical Programs”, and the Princeton Review ranks CUNY Law in the top 10 in the nation for “Best Law Professors”.
