Dromm, Muslim Merchants Hold 9/11 Vigil
Councilmember Daniel Dromm (c.), the Muslim merchants of the 37th Road Diversity Plaza in Jackson Heights and SUKHI NY held a candlelight vigil for the victims of the 9/11 tragedy. SUKHI is an acronym for Social Uplift Knowledge and Hope Initiatives; it also translates from Urdu, Hindi and other languages as “prosperity and happiness”. In a show of solidarity, business owners dimmed their lights for the vigil and placed flowers along the plaza to pay tribute to the fallen heroes. Pictured with Dromm are (l. to r.) SUKHI President Shazia Kausar, SUKHI member Fatima Baryab and SUKHI Founder Agha Saleh.
