Kaufman Studios Worker Charged In Drug Bust

By LIZ GOFF

An electrician at the Kaufman Astoria Studios was arrested last week after security guards intercepted a shipment of marijuana that was addressed to him at the studio complex.

Cops responded to a call from security guards at the Kaufman Astoria Studios on 36th Street in Long Island City at about 2:50 p.m. on September 6 after the guards discovered the marijuana, sealed inside plastic pouches, authorities said.

Guards who opened two cardboard boxes addressed to studio electrician, Lowell Schulman, 53, told cops they discovered the marijuana, concealed in the shipment that also contained books and cologne, police said.

When cops questioned Schulman about the shipment, he admitted he was expecting the marijuana, but not as much as he received.

Police found five bags of crack cocaine in Schulman’s trouser pockets at the time of his arrest, authorities said.

Schulman was charged with multiple counts of marijuana possession, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana at his arraignment at Queens Criminal Court.

“This arrest and drug seizure is a credit to security efforts by officials at the Kaufman Astoria Studios, ” a high-ranking NYPD official said. “It appears they have professional, trained security personnel on the job who are looking out for the safety of studio workers and the surrounding community.”
