Autograph Hound Busted At US Open

An over-enthusiastic tennis fan found himself behind bars on September 5 after he was busted by security officers at the US Open when he ran onto a court at the tennis tournament championship matches at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park—to get an autograph from a player.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Damian Proano, 40, burst onto the court just after the conclusion of the September 5 match between Novak Djokovic and Stanislas Wawrinka.

“The Queens District Attorney’s Office and US Open officials have zero tolerance for spectators who fail to conduct themselves responsibly,” Brown said.

Proano was charged with wrongly being on the playing area of a major venue or sporting event at this arraignment at Queens Criminal Court, where the case was adjourned in contemplation of dismissal, a spokesperson for the Queens district attorney’s office said.
