Assemblymember Michael Simanowitz, state Senator Toby Ann Stavisky and other community leaders were on hand August 28 to help celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Pomonok Houses public housing development.

“Access to quality, affordable housing is the difference between dignity and despair for the hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers that depend on developments like Pomonok,” said Stavisky. “As neighborhoods become gentrified and market rates for housing skyrocket, it is absolutely critical that we maintain our commitment to those in public housing.”

Housing more than 4,000 residents in more than 2,000 units over 35 buildings, Pomonok is one of more than two dozen public housing developments in the borough of Queens.

“Pomonok Houses has long been the crown jewel of the NYC Housing Authority,” said Simanowitz. “I am honored to represent over 4,000 residents from this diverse and active community. I congratulate the leadership and volunteers of the Pomonok Resident’s Association for their tireless work in making Pomonk’s 60th Anniversary Celebration a success.”
