Responding to a 911 call early Monday morning firefighters in Queens fought a multiple family building blaze that sent 19 of our city’s Bravest as well as two civilians to Flushing Hospital for a number of fire related injuries.
The fire was reported about 2:55.am at 143-01 45th Avenue, in Flushing. More than 200 firefighters worked together to extinguish the flames that were shooting out from the windows and at the same time helped to evacuate the building as residents were sleeping when the fire erupted.
Firefighters brought the fire under control by 6:00 Am in time for rush hour in Queens. It is believed that the fire started in a laundry on the ground level of the building where three businesses in total were engulfed by the flames and destroyed as were most of the of this 4 story building.
The owner of the building, Chi-Sei-Han, was seen across the street from the gutted out building where he said he lived. Mr. Han was not home when the blaze swept through the once impressive looking structure at the northeast corner of 45th Avenue and 221 Street.
According to Mr. Wan,” I was staying with my daughter with relatives visiting from Tai Wan.
Fire Marshals were investigating the cause of blaze as we went to press.
