Pomonok Mom Charged With Murdering Son, 2

By LIZ GOFF
Police arrested a 29-year-old mother of six on Friday night, who is facing charges for allegedly strangling her 2-year-old son in their Kew Gardens Hills apartment.
Cops said Afriyie Gaspard called 911 at about 8:30 p.m. on August 10, saying she found her son, Isayah Hall, 2, unconscious in their apartment at the Pomonok Houses at155-14 Jewel Avenue.
Gaspard told EMS workers who responded to the scene that she “tried to wake the boy up, but he didn’t respond,” a police source said.
The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors determined he had been strangled, police said.
Gaspard, who has a history of child abuse complaints, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter. Her five other children were placed in the care of the city Administration for Children.
Neighbors questioned how the city agency could have allowed Gaspard to keep the children, based on a history of abuse that they witnessed.
“How crazy are you, to kill your own child?” a neighbor said. “And how could these people let her keep these children after she was called up, over and over, for beating and abusing them?”
