Resorts World Casino Celebrates Armstrong’s 111th Birthday
Resorts World Casino New York City is celebrating the life of Louis Armstrong, a jazz pioneer. This August 4 would have been Armstrong’s 111th birthday, and to commemorate it, Resorts World Casino, 110-00 Rockaway Blvd., Jamaica, unveiled an art exhibit on Friday, August 3, in its Fifth Avenue Casino atrium.
Synonymous with jazz, Armstrong’s influence on the musical genre is far-reaching. His inventiveness, spontaneity and technique set Armstrong apart, making him an artist ahead of his time.
“Though Armstrong was born in New Orleans, it was Queens he chose to call home,” Resorts World Casino President Michael Speller said. “Louis Armstrong’s contribution to jazz and the American landscape is unparalleled. We are thrilled to host this tribute to Louis Armstrong.”
Comprised of iconic photos, the exhibit showcases Armstrong at his historic home in Corona, with other legendary entertainers, and in his travels around the world with his wife and his constant companion, his trumpet.
