Yes we CANZ,” said one Long Island newspaper about the success story of CANZaCiti Roadhouse, now with three locations in Long Island and our own Astoria. The 30th Avenue location opened two years ago and is always buzzing with patrons enjoying high quality food, refreshing cocktails, and of course beer, beer, beer. There’s plenty of seating outside on the sidewalk, inside the rustic roadhouse style dining room, or out back on the covered patio, lined with wooden barrels. Come as you are to this casual, neighborhood spot, but expect food that is way above “bar food” in its flavor, freshness and quality. The service is fast and friendly and I like their “no attitude” attitude, everyone is welcome here, including families, so you can relax and enjoy a great meal.

Tim Lorito and Matt Dill are proud to have opened three locations so far in Westbury, Astoria, and the latest in Patchogue. The list of beers is remarkable and includes over 200 brews such as Kona from Hawaii, Peroni from Italy, Duvel from Belgium, Pilsner Urquell from the Czech Republic, Presidente from the Dominican Republic, Sam Adams Cherry Wheat from Boston and Southampton IPA from the East End of Long Island. In addition, the expert mixologists concoct fabulous cocktails for one or many to enjoy. My guests and I shared a Sangria bowl, served in a fish bowl with wine, liqueur and fruit and very long straws to get every drop of this delicious mix. The Hulk Fishbowl has several secret ingredients, as does their famous Jungle Juice made with Absolut vodka, citron, grenadine, peach schnapps, orange and pineapple juices for a fruity drink with a kick. Cocktails include Cherry Moon, Absolut Love Machine and Big Ginger. Every day there are Happy Hour specials, weekly Karaoke, sports events such as UFC and general merriment for all.

Jason, the friendly manager and the lovely servers brought a shiny platter of their famous chicken wings along with three sauces on the side: mild, hot and barbecue. These wings were meaty and crispy, without being greasy and we made short work of cleaning the plate, which was nicely garnished with celery sticks and blue cheese ($8.95). Quesadillaz are crisp and light and grilled to crispy perfection, filled with either chicken, shrimp or beef and zesty jack cheese, pico de gallo and sour cream ($9.95+). CANZaCiti Sliderz are juicy little burgers made from kobe beef or chicken on mini buns, ideal for sharing ($10.95). Potato skinz are big Idahos stuffed with cheddar cheese and bacon, served with sour cream. Who can resist “disco friez” topped with caramelized onions, mozzarella and brown gravy for a blast from the past. Can’t decide? Order the Sampler and share potato skins, buffalo bites and fried mozzarella sticks.

CANZaCiti’s sandwiches and wraps require two hands and a hearty appetite and can be enjoyed for lunch, dinner or late night meal. CANZaCiti hot skirt steak is piled onto buttery telera bread with jalapeƱos, cheese, spicy mayo, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. My favorite sandwich is the pulled pork loaded with tender, sweet barbecued pork, served with sweet potato fries ($13.95). The grilled chicken sandwich has been marinated first then served on brioche bread with fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers and lemon-garlic dressing ($11.95). Try a healthy avocado and veggie wrap, filled with ripe avocado, cucumber, hummus, red onion and mixed greens. Sandwiches and wraps come with either French fries or salad, homemade cole slaw and pickle. You can substitute yummy sweet potato fries for a small upcharge. For lunch or dinner order a big, crunchy Cobb salad composed of organic greens, bacon, hard cooked egg, tomato, red onion, avocado, crumbled bleu cheese and your choice of dressing. You can also get a Caesar or CANZ salad and top it with grilled chicken, shrimp, salmon or steak.

Canz Classicz include their incredible BBQ baby back ribs, served in half or full racks. These meaty, fall-off-thebone ribs are slow cooked and basted in special house made sauce for a backyard treat, along with Yukon gold mashed potatoes. The homemade tacoz are piled high with either chicken or steak, lots of shredded lettuce, tomato, jack cheese, salsa and guacamole in a grilled flour tortilla. Jack Daniels BBQ salmon takes this meaty fish to new heights, with bourbon-based sauce and a pass on the grill, served with mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley ($13.95). If you feel like a burger, CANZ has several varieties including the classic sirloin burger or BBQ sirloin burger, turkey burger, wild mushroom burger or the CC burger with applewood smoked bacon and aged cheddar.

CANZaCiti offers, by far, the most decadent desserts, the most popular of which is the fried Twinkie and the batter-dipped, fried Oreos. Need I say more? Well, the apple crisp and brownie sundae are great too, served with high quality ice cream.

CANZaCiti is open seven days a week from 11:30am to 4:00am for lunch, dinner, late night snacking and Sunday brunch, with unlimited Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas. Monday nights offer “Wing Fever” with unlimited wingz and draftz from 7pm to 11pm for just $25 per person. Tuesday is two for one, with select draftz and appetizerz served two for the price of one.

Any day or night is a good time to visit CANZaCiti Roadhouse where the beer is always flowing, the food is fresh and delicious and the atmosphere is very friendly and inviting. See you at the Roadhouse!
