Cops Injured In Astoria Crash

By LIZ GOFF

Two police officers assigned to the 114th Precinct are recovering from serious injuries they suffered when their police cruiser slammed into several parked cars on July 17.
Police officials said the cops were driving along 44th Street, between 34th Avenue and Broadway at about 8:30 p.m. on July 17 responding with lights and sirens to a robbery in progress in Astoria, when a small child darted between parked cars.
“The officers had to choose between striking the child or hitting the parked cars,” police officials said. “They swerved to avoid the child and crashed into the parked vehicles.”
One officer suffered a seriously dislocated shoulder and remains hospitalized.  The second officer suffered a serious leg injury that kept him hospitalized for more than one week, the officials said.
