Giant Court Date
Giants lineman David Diehl made an unscheduled appearance last week in Queens Criminal Court.
Diehl, who was arrested for DWI after slamming his BMW into two parked cars in Astoria, was scheduled to appear before the court on July 26 – the first day of the Giant’s training camp.
To avoid missing the first day of camp, Diehl’s lawyers arranged to move up the court date to July 20, law enforcement sources said.
During the hearing, prosecutors turned over information to the defense team on 911 calls made by Diehl after the crash, for review by Diehl’s lawyers.
A Breathalyzer test administered to Diehl after the crash indicated his blood alcohol level was significantly over the legal limit.
Police said Diehl spent several hours at a bar on Broadway and 36th Street in Astoria on June 10, lamenting a loss in the World Cup Soccer competition. Diehl was “completely wasted when he left the bar, Scorpio, and got behind the wheel of his BMW”, police sources said. He slammed into the parked cars when he was pulling out of a spot near Scorpio, the sources said.
Diehl is due back in Queens Criminal Court on September 7.
