Featuring founding member Leroy “Lonnie” Jordan, the group performed many of their famous hits including “The Cisco Kid”, “Why Can’t We Be Friends?”, “For The Love Of Money” and “Low Rider”. The group also featured Sal Rodriguez on drums, percussion, vocals, Fernando Harkles on saxophone, Marcos Reyes on percussion, Stuart Ziff on guitar and vocals, Francisco “Pancho” Tomaselli on bass and vocals and Stanley Behrens on harmonica. Felix Hernandez and his Rhythm Review helped warm up the crowd before WAR took the stage for a free 90-minute concert held in part by the City Parks Foundation’s Summer Stage concert series co-sponsored by AT&T. More than six million people have attended Summer Stage since it was started almost three decades ago. The festival, www.SummerStage.org, runs until August 9 in Queens.–Jason D. Antos
