APAC To Hold Auditions For Kids’ Free Summer Program
For the 10th consecutive year, Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) is offering a free performance program for children in August: Summer Stars. The program is open to children between the ages of eight to 13 who live in Queens. Through open auditions, APAC will find children to participate in a multi-week music and theatre training program that will culminate in two performances open to the public. The children will work with an experienced director and musical director to develop an original musical production. Auditions will be August 4, from 10 until 1 p.m. Children should come prepared to sing a song of their choice. No past performance experience is required. Rehearsals will be Monday thru Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., August 13 to 24. Performances will be on August 25. The location is the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 30-44 Crescent St., Astoria. Similar programs can cost hundreds of dollars for families. Because Summer Stars is supported through grants, APAC is able to offer the program for free. Sponsors include Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr., the Aviation Development Council, Port Authority of NY & NJ, and Astoria Federal Savings Bank. All information can be found at www.apacny.org. or by e-mailing info@apacny.org or call (718) 706-5750. Pictured a previous performance.
