MENG URGES NEW ANTI-CRIME METHOD: Assemblymember Grace Meng joined on Monday with state Senator Jose Peralta and other lawmakers to urge passage of a law requiring gun and ammunition manufacturers to use bullet microstamping technology as a crime-solving measure.

Meng a Flushing resident who is running for Congress, explained that very often the only evidence found at crime scenes will be bullet shell casings. If the bullet has a number on it to identify who purchased it, then cops will be able to trace it back to the purchases and questioning that person who can help identify who fired the bullet that was found at the crime scene.

The gun lobby recently used pressure to get Republican state senators to vote against a microstamping bill and it failed to get passed.
