Drunk Driver Kills GCP Worker
A drunken, unlicensed driver struck and killed an electrician working on the Grand Central Parkway on July 10.
Utility worker Frank Avino, 63, of Ronkonkoma, Long Island, was setting up traffic cones for a left lane closure on the westbound Grand Central Parkway, near the Jewel Avenue exit, when Munshi Abdullah, 26, slammed his 2002 Audi A6 into Avino, police said.
Avino, who worked for Welsbach Electric Corporation, was declared dead at the scene at about 11 a.m.
Police arrested Abdullah, of Jamaica Hills, a short distance from the scene, sources said.
He was charged with vehicular manslaughter, DWI, resisting arrest and driving without a license.
Police sources said Abdullah was inebriated when he was booked on the charges.
