School Year Ends With Closures


State Senator Michael Gianaris was the keynote speaker on June 27 at Long Island City High School’s final graduation. The school will be closed and reopened in the fall as a completely new school following the city Department of Education’s aggressive plan to turn around under-performing schools, which Gianaris, an LIC alumni, opposed. William Cullen Bryant H.S. also held its final commencement at St. John’s University the previous day. Bryant H.S. has served the Western Queens community since 1889.
