Photos Tony Barsamian As the Queens Gazette went to press June 26, voters were still balloting on national primary contests that will elect party candidates in the fall elections. There will be stories on those outcomes in next week’s issue of this newspaper.
The two Queens races involving Queens participants, the U.S. Senate primary for Republicans, and the four Democratic hopefuls for the new 6th Congressional District seat, were reportedly attracting many voters.
Running in the Senate primary are Congressmember Bob Turner (R–C–Queens/Brooklyn); Manhattan attorney Wendy Long; and George Maragos, the Nassau County Comptroller. The winner will face Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in November.
The four Democrats in the 6th CD primary are: Assemblymembers Grace Meng, of Flushing; Rory Lancman, of Fresh Meadows; Councilmember Elizabeth Crowley, of Glendale; and Dr. Robert Mittman, of Bayside. The winner will oppose Councilmember Dan Halloran (R–C–Whitestone) in November.
