Astoria/LIC Kiwanis Holds Scholarship Dinner


The Astoria/LIC Kiwanis held its Annual Scholarship Dinner on May 23 at Ponticello Ristorante in Astoria. The Kiwanis honored nine local high school seniors for academic excellence, outstanding community service and art. Students from the following schools were awarded scholarships toward their college education: Frank Sinatra School of the Arts -John Alexander Sakelos and Margarita Palvanova. William Cullen Bryant H.S. - Doaa Ahmed, Samar Khawaja and Gabriela Ortiz. St. John’s Preparatory School - Jason Williams and Diane Moya. Long Island City H.S. - Devika Seeraj. Academy of American Studies - Malik Clarke. The students all shared their college bound plans and hopes for the future. It was a very special occasion for the 75 members of the Kiwanis as well as the families and friends of the students.
