Teacher Charged In Three More Gropes
A Queens computer teacher arrested earlier this year for molesting two students was charged last week with fondling three other students, police said.
Wilbert Cortez, 49, is accused of touching five boys between 2007 and 2011 on multiple occasions at P.S. 174 in Rego Park, police said.
Cortez, who was reassigned out of the classroom following his February 16 arrest, was arraigned on May 30 at Queens Criminal Court on two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, one count of second-degree sexual conduct against a child and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Cortez is accused of placing his hand on the genitals of two students, ages six and 10, over their clothing while they were seated in his classroom, Brown said.
Cortez is also accused of entering the teacher’s bathroom with an eight-year-old boy and fondling him under his clothing, Brown said.
He is facing 14 years in prison, if convicted of all charges.
