Supporting Riders For The Cure


Last week, we ran a piece about Jay Binkowitz, of American Eye Care in Astoria, who, along with his wife, Bettina, will participate in the upcoming, annual Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC). The Binkowitzes, (pictured here) who participated in last year’s event, were just two of the 5,000 riders who helped raise $35 million. Having been personally affected by the disease, as most everyone is, the Binkowitzes devote their vacation time every year to this event. Last year Bettina completed the entire 192 miles under her own power. Jay assisted the riders as a volunteer the first day and completed 50 miles the second. They will repeat that effort this year. We know that many Queens Gazette readers were left scratching their heads, wondering how they, too, can support this worthy cause. We apologize for having left out that important information. One hundred percent of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
