Rally Held To Preserve Library Funding

Councilmembers Jimmy Van Bramer and Peter F. Vallone Jr. attended a rally on May 30 outside Queens Library’s Broadway branch, 40-20 Broadway, Long Island City, to advocate for funding to save library hours and jobs. During the rally, parents marched with their children in protest of a city proposal to cut Queens Library’s budget by 31 percent. “This is where I got my first library card,” Van Bramer said. Also present was Queens Library Guild President John Hyslop. One young lady, seen here, presented Van Bramer with a balloon which read ‘Save Our Library’. The councilmember urged those concerned about the current state of library funding to call 311. –Jason D. Antos
