Pet Protection Bill In Senate
Steal a pet and go directly to jail.
The state senate last week passed a bill that would make stealing a pet dog or cat a grand larceny.
Senator Carl Marcellino introduced the legislation after he noticed an increase in pet thefts by individuals who sell the animals to puppy mills, turn them over to handlers for dog fighting events or use them as prey for fun exotic animal hunting.
The bill is currently under consideration and is expected to clear the senate within the next few months.
