Simotas Celebrates Opening Of New York Bakery
On April 28, Assemblymember Aravella Simotas and local leaders attended the grand opening of the New York Bakery at 32-06 30th Ave. in Astoria. The new bakery, owned by Dionisios Linardatos, specializes in pastries from Greece. Simotas was joined by City Council candidate and community leader Tony Meloni, Father Dionisios Markatos of Evangelismos Tis Theotokou of Jersey City, New Jersey and area residents to help celebrate the new addition to the neighborhood. “This small locally owned business reminds me of growing up in my parent’s delicatessen in Woodside. Just like Mr. Linardatos, my parents took pride in their business, and they cared about the people who patronized their storefront,” Simotas said. “Businesses like the New York Bakery are the lifeblood of neighborhoods throughout Queens—especially Astoria.” Simotas supports small businesses because they are an engine for economic growth and generate employment for local residents and tax revenue for New York state.
