Katherine McQuade Crowned Borough’s Outstanding Teen



Whitestone resident Katherine McQuade recently won the prestigious title of Miss Queens’ Outstanding Teen. Part of Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, the program is a sister pageant to the Miss America Organization to promote scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for America’s teens. More than $175,000 in scholarship grants was distributed to the 52 contestants in the pageant, with a $30,000 scholarship being awarded to the winner. McQuade will be competing for the New York state title this June in Staten Island. If successful, she will advance to the National Pageant in Florida in August. McQuade is a high honor roll sophomore at the Professional Performing Arts H. S. in Manhattan, a member of Landrum School of Dance All Star Company Dance Team, creator and founder of Potholders for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness in honor of her grandmother as well as teen ambassador to the Lustgarten Foundation and Youth Advocate for the American Heart Association. On May 6, McQuade will participate in the 2012 New York City Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk sponsored by the Lustgarten Foundation at Clinton Cove, Hudson River Park, 12th Avenue and 55th Street.
