Ascan And Austin To Be Named Geraldine Ferraro Way

Geraldine Ferraro will be honored with a street co-naming this spring. Councilmember Karen Koslowitz broke the news at the Forest Hills Civic Association meeting on April 10, that Ascan Avenue in Forest Hills will soon be co-named for the former congressmember. “We’re naming a street after her at Ascan and Austin Street because she lived in this neighborhood,” Koslowitz said. “She lived in the Gardens. And she used to shop Austin Street. I met her many times in the shops on Austin Street.” Ferraro earned a place in history by being the first woman nominated for U.S. vice president by a major political party. She represented Forest Hills and other Queens neighborhoods in the U.S. House of Representatives for six years, from 1979 until 1985. Ferraro died on March 26, 2011, from multiple myeloma.
