The Bayside-Whitestone Lions Club held its monthly meeting on April 4 at the law offices of Vallone & Vallone. President Paul Vallone announced the club’s upcoming free Tree Giveaway. In conjunction with Million Trees NYC and New York Restoration Project, the Bayside–Whitestone Lions Club is giving away 100 free trees to make the neighborhood greener. The Tree Giveaway will be held on April 28, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at A&S Whitestone Nursery, 23-02 Francis Lewis Boulevard. Vallone also announced the club’s first annual Scholarship Awards Dinner. Nine students from local high schools have been selected for this scholarship. The Scholarship Awards Dinner is on May 17 from 6 p.m. though 9 p.m. at Verdi’s, 149-58 Cross Island Parkway, in Whitestone.

The evening’s speakers were Queens Center for Progress Development Assistant Wendy Phaff, who discussed her organization’s mission to serve individuals with developmental disabilities; Mary Conaty, who discussed her participation in the upcoming Relay for Life and her team, Team Mac’s Angels in the Outfield and Team Lung Love’s Carrie Wesolowski, who is participating in Lung Cancer Alliance’s upcoming marathon in honor of her father. The Bayside–Whitestone Lions Club will not meet in May but invites everyone in the community to their upcoming events.
