Heroic Con Ed Employees Honored
Councilmember Dan Halloran presented City Council proclamations to three heroic Con Ed employees at a small ceremony in City Hall yesterday. The councilmember honored John Kane, Michael Santeramo and John McDonnell for coming to the rescue of a crime victim in Auburndale. In January, the three workers were fixing a gas leak at 41st Avenue near 201st Street when they heard the sounds of a nearby robbery. They observed a man with a gun assaulting a woman while attempting to steal her purse. Upon seeing the workers, the robber ran away. The workers stayed with the victim until police arrived. “These three heroes showed courage in helping a fellow New Yorker in her time of need,” said Halloran. “I thank them for their bravery. Mr. Kane, Mr. McDonnell and Mr. Santeramo epitomize what it means to be a New Yorker.” Seen here are (L. to r.); Santeramo, Kane, Halloran, Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr., Public Safety Committee Chair McDonnell and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
