The Joy Of A Family Reunion Or Group Outing

Since 1869 six generations of Scotts have operated a family resort in the mountains on the picturesque Oquaga Lake dubbed, Scott’s Oquaga Lake House in Deposit, New York.

The present facility encompasses 1,000 acres, including two scenic, nine golf courses, tennis courts (outside and inside), softball, Bocce, shuffle board courts, a separate pitch and putt golf course, putting green Swedish exercise course and numerous walking trails in the beautiful New York state forests and mountains. In front of the playhouse, the waterfront is always alive with swimming, canoeing, boating, a kids club, speed boat rides, water skiing or a ride on the showboat which has been a fixture on Oquaga Lake for many years, with its sing along cruises.

The main building includes; lobby, up to 250 dining room seating and a number of guest rooms. Other guest rooms are in adjoining Annex Buildings and various sized lake front cottages. The focal point for fun is a large playhouse at the lake side which houses an old fashioned soda fountain, pool tables, ping pong and bowling alleys built in 1898. There are other amusement games.

On another level overlooking the lake, dancers enjoy a 3,200 square foot hardwood dance floor, (a dream come true for folk, ballroom and country dancers). These activities are part of the everyday program at Scott. Seven nights a week this room becomes a showroom for “live shows and entertainment”. A long list of daytime activities range from; mini-bus tours, talent shows, dance lessons, three meals a day, accommodations, all shows and entertainment and sports facilities are included for one rate.

Presently, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Scott, daughter Patty, son in-law Gary, their daughter Michelle and son Michael all keep up the tradition of providing great vacations for folks. With new facilities joining every year, some started making Scotts their summer home 85 years ago. You’ll enjoy the caring hospitality every day and twice a week you’ll see the Scotts present a Broadway type of musical revenue. Some say this family show sets the mood and character of this rather unique resort with its old fashioned charm. Other nights you’ll enjoy professional entertainers of cruise ship variety.
