MARSHALL DISSECTS BLOOMBERG BUDGET: At a meeting of community board managers recently at Queens Borough Hall, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall complained that “the most troublesome funding that was allocated by the City Council in 2012 was not continued by the mayor” in his preliminary budget for next year. Marshall said that $1.6 million of her discretionary funding has not been continued into 2013, so many senior programs will not be funded. “Without it,” Marshall said, “six senior centers will close, four adult daycare centers and transportation programs will cease.” Also threatened, she stated, are 20 firehouses that will again be on the chopping block. In addition, the Queens Public Library, which absorbed a two percent reduction in 2012 (totalling $1.67 million) will increase to six percent ($3.59 million) in the 2013 budget, leading to reduced hours of service. There will also be reductions in education, youth and community development, and cultural affairs as well as community boards’ staff.
