St. Michael’s, U.S. Marines Gather Toys For Tots

Photos Jason D. Antos On December 10, St. Michael’s Cemetery in East Elmhurst hosted its second Toys for Tots program sponsored by the United States Marine Corp.

Guests arrived with shopping bags filled with toys of all kinds and gathered in the warm atmosphere of the cemetery’s All Souls Chapel on Saturday afternoon where they were treated to cookies and traditional Christmas songs played by pianist Hank Johnson of Jazz Bone Records. The event was hosted by St. Michael’s Cemetery Director of Community Relations Ed Horn.

The administration, students and families of St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School in Astoria collected 300 toys and sent them along to St. Michael’s.

Quinn and Sons Funeral Home Vice President George L. Stamatiades also helepd sponsor the event.

Representing the Marines in their dress blue uniforms were Staff Sergeant Brown and Sergeant Ross of the Sixth Communications Battalion who greeted contributors and guests.
