Taminent Democratic Club Holds 80th Annual Gala
The Taminent Regular Democratic Club held its 80th annual dinner dance at Riccardo’s by the Bridge in Astoria. The November 5 gala event honored four distinguished individuals who were recognized as the club’s 2011 Guests of Honor for their outstanding community service.
The honorees included Linda Perno (Woman of the Year), Jeffery Sandhaus M.D. (Man of the Year), Dolores DeCrescenzo (Hon. Gloria D’Amico Award) and Patrick Dolan (Hon. Ralph DeMarco Award).
Sandhaus, who was not present, has been serving Western Queens for more than 36 years providing urologic care to the community as director of Urology at Mount Sinai Queens. Kiwanis President Elect Arthur Gualtieri M.D. accepted the award on his behalf.
DeCrescenzo has been a resident of Astoria since 1961 and has been involved in many local political organizations including Ravenswood Lions Club and the Taminent Women’s Club. From 1993 until 2004, DeCrescenzo served as the Deputy City Clerk for The Bronx.
Dolan is president of the Enterprise Association of Steamfitters Local Union 638. Dolan was born in Manhattan and raised in Middle Village.
Present at the event were former state Senator George Onorato, Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr., Assemblymember Aravella Simotas, state Senator Michael Gianaris, Congressmember Carolyn Maloney, Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown and City Comptroller John Liu. The Taminent Men’s Regular Democratic Club Officers were also on hand including President Edward Babor, First Vice President Theodore Kasapis and the Taminent Women’s Regular Democratic Club Officer Executive Member and current District Leader Carolyn Scarano, President Maria Russo and Vice President Donna Furey. Former District Leader, the Hon. Gloria DeMarco Aloise was also present.
The evening’s ceremony concluded with a late supper, which was followed by dancing. A surprise cake was brought out for Onorato in honor of his birthday.
