Maloney Honors Family Owned Garden Center

Local businessmen John and Frank Verni, proprietors of Verni’s Garden Center and Florist, a family-owned and operated small business in Astoria, were honored on October 24 by Congressmember Carolyn Maloney with a Congressional Certificate of Merit. The Verni brothers were recognized for donating several trees to the city Department of Parks and Recreation. “I salute Frank and John Verni for their gift to the people and parks of Queens. Thanks to civic-minded New Yorkers like Frank and John who are supporting the Million Trees NYC program, all of us will be able to enjoy a greener city in the years to come,” the congressmember said. Maloney (c.), was joined by (L. to r.); Central Astoria Local Development Coalition (CALDC) President George L. Stamatiades, owner John Verni, Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski and former Community Board 1 District Manager George Delis at Verni’s Garden Center and Florist located on Hazen Street in Astoria Heights for the event.
