Local Astorian Starts New Social Networking Web Site

There is an old saying, “You can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family.” Because of one Astoria resident, that is about to change.

Keeping in touch with friends and family has become easy thanks to online social networks like Facebook.

Many sites dedicate themselves to helping people find their true love.

A new, recently launched site, Chooseafamily.com, helps individuals find companionship to help fill the void of a lost family member.

Kim Parshley, from Astoria, is the founder of the site. The purpose of this Web site is not only make new friends, but to also provide members with the opportunity of finding a person that closely resembles a family member.

Parshley was born in New York and came from a very close family.

At the age of thirteen Parshley had to deal with the reality of losing her father. Her mother managed to stay strong for Parshley and her younger sister as they grew up. She passed away in 2007.

Parshley has been working in Astoria as a real estate agent for the past ten years. Losing both parents before the peak of her success has not been easy for her. That is why her new Web site has been created. It exists to help people find others who share the same values, beliefs, philosophies and goals. This Web site is also useful for people who want somebody to look up to, or become a mentor.

Chooseafamily.com allows members to pick and choose their own unique family members. The Web site is made for those who have lost a mother, father, sister or brother who can relate to each other.

“The goal of Chooseafamily.com is to take the concept of social networks to a whole new level,” Parshley said.

The first 500 people who join the site will receive a free lifetime membership.
