The councilmember, in conjunction with City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and the city council, secured approximately $1,000,000 for 2013 in capital improvements. The Obie Award-winning Chocolate Factory Theater supports the creation of new work in a variety of disciplines including theater, dance, music, multimedia and the visual arts and the funding that supports the Chocolate Factory pays for the artists and cultural events that keep patrons coming and strengthens the Long Island City art scene. “I am a proud supporter of the Chocolate Factory, as it provides a unique venue for artistic expression in Queens. Giving local artists an opportunity to actually work and showcase their talent in the community attracts visitors from all over, and increases the desirability to live and work in the neighborhood, ” said Van Bramer.
