114th Precinct Crime Watch
Cops Nab Basher
Cops at the 114th Precinct arrested a 27-year-old Queens man on September 1, and charged him with assault and weapons possession in the brutal beating of an Astoria man.
Police said Kevin Sorta and an accomplice ambushed the 39-year-old victim as he walked on Broadway near 34th Street at about 2 a.m. on August 20.
Sorta bashed the victim in the face, then tossed his weapon to his accomplice before they fled the scene – leaving the victim bleeding on the sidewalk, police said.
The victim, who suffered a fractured eye socket and broken nose in the attack, was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Dogged Owner Busted
Cops at the 114th Precinct arrested an out-of-control dog owner after he maced an Astoria neighbor in the eyes during an argument.
Police said Peter Civan, 30, was walking his dog at 31st Street and Ditmars Boulevard at about 11:30 a.m. on September 5 when a 50-year-old passerby asked why the dog wasn’t on a leash.
“I told him if he didn’t back up I would spray him,” Civan said.
“He came too close and I sprayed him.”
Civan was charged with assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon at his arraignment at Queens Criminal Court.
