Astoria Resident Earns Top Spot In ‘Karaoke Battle USA’
After months of competition against hundreds of talented and aspiring New York singers, Astoria resident Brandi Thompson has earned her spot as a top finalist on ABC’s new program, “Karaoke Battle USA”.
The program follows the Karaoke World Championship Competition, which focuses on finding and promoting the best undiscovered singers in the nation. Thousands of hopefuls across America entered this competition. Also on the line are valuable prizes, including studio recording time, album production and a record contract with Hollywood Records.
Thompson is an Astoria resident and amateur singer who works as a senior event coordinator for St. John’s University in Jamaica Estates. She is also the managing editor of the hyper-local social networking Web site WhyLeaveAstoria.com. Competing in the Karaoke Championship this past spring, Thompson beat out hundreds of amateur and semi-professional singers in the New York City finals. She then placed amongst the top two competitive singers in New York state, which earned her a place on the TV show. Now, Brandi must go against some of the best amateur singers along the entire eastern seaboard for a chance at a life-changing music career.
“Karaoke Battle USA” is hosted by singer and actor Joey Fatone, and features a judging panel that includes singer/songwriter and TV host Carnie Wilson, music journalist Joe Levy (Maxim, Rolling Stone) and the 2009 National Karaoke Champion Brian Scott.
Brandi will be featured on the “Karaoke Battle USA” episode airing September 2 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
